One cannot start this musical journey without re-visiting the 'Yorkville Music Scene' in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the 60's, when people like Fred and some of the groups he was part of, frequented those intimate coffee houses on Yorkville Ave & the Yonge Street Strip!
Many artists like Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Ian & Sylvia, Neil Young, Murray Mclauchlan, Dan Hill, Buffy Ste Marie graced those stages!
Yorkville was thriving as big-name artists like Stevie Wonder & the Righteous Brothers would drop by from time to time after finishing their concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens for very large venues, the Meridian Hall for the Performing Arts (then the O'Keefe Centre for medium to large venues), and the historic Massey Hall for smaller more intimate settings!
Fred remembers a night when David Clayton Thomas, unannounced, got up and sang an accappella version of 'Spinning Wheel’ and yes, it sounded terrific, without instrumentation. What an amazing vocalist!
Fred also has fond memories of being a part of the progressive Rock/Blues/Band, 'Homestead' in the early 70's.
Terry Filion a booking agent and manager of many rock & R & B bands at the time convinced Bill King, an amazing keyboardist & composer (ex-band member for the Janis Joplin band at the time) to come on board. He is now the new director for: Sing-The Toronto Arts & Vocal Festival from Jul 29 to Sept 6, each year at Ontario Place.
With Bill King in, Terry originally brought John Pace in on drums, who was later replaced by Paul Beedham (ex-drummer for Lucifer & Shawn Jackson) with Bill Small on bass & back up vocals, and Fred Cacciotti on lead guitar, & back up vocals, to make the group a reality!
Bill King was the original lead vocalist, but when they recorded the album, Homestead, produced by Jack Richardson, on the Nimbus Nine record label, Bill felt that John Finley, an R&B artist, should replace him vocally on the album. This was so that listeners, could clearly make out the lyric, which was very important to Bill!
All the sound & visual recordings you hear and see on this site are coming to you from Fred’s Creative & Performance Workshop, The two particular recordings in the Classical Section are from one of Fred’s four CD’s , ‘River of Mercy’.
The one Vocal Track in the “Rock & Blues” section is from Bill King’s Homestead album & features Fred Cacciotti on lead guitar, John Finley on vocals, Paul Beedham on drums, Bill Small on bass and of course Bill King on keyboards,
composer of all songs
Going forward, only Gypsy Jazz, Classical, Celtic & blues instrumental guitar pieces will be uploaded in each section over the next months and years! Stay tuned!
